Default I'm confused

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/auction...php/id=129088/

Can someone explain to me, just how the hell do you sell something for 16 million g?

assuming that you'll only accept 100k+ectos, that's gonna be 16,000,000 - 100 = 15999900, then assuming ectos are 7k each 15999900/7000 = 2285.7 ectos....wow....

is it just me or are alot of the prices on the gwguru auction website insane?

There are people that can afford things like that, but yes 16 million for that sword is VERY overpriced IMO. things are sold for over 100k using rare materials like ectos, rubies, saphires, jade, or amber to make uo the difference.

Crystaline swords are worth more than a longsword or whatnot due to the extreme rarity that they drop and there is only one known location in which they drop and thats the Hall of Heroes chest after winning the alter match.

I know how 100k+ items are sold (even though it's overpriced imo), but how do you trade someone 16,000,000 in one go? And who can afford 100k+2285 ectos??

Technically you cant. 2285 ecto would be 9 and 1/5th stacks of ecto.

so you would need to trade the 2 1/5 stacks first, then trade the 100k + 7 stacks

In practice, it's only possible to trade 100k and 7 stacks of ecto in one trade.

Before people started using ecto as a secondary currency for large transactions, it was customary that the seller would trade the buyer a piece of his 15k/FoW armor as a sign of good faith that the seller wasn't going to scam the buyer. Once the seller had all of the money and the buyer had the item, the buyer would trade the piece of armor back to the seller. Not a very practical system, but it got the job done.

I'd also like to know who could possible amass 100k plus 1,750 ecto to cram into one trade window. My guess is eBay buyers and the top .1% of legitimate farmers.

How did people legitimately accumulate this much gold?

Extreme solo UW farming back when mobs did not respond to AoE and protective bond was used instead of protective spirit.

Buyer has (-1) feedback out of 1 feedback.

Methinks this was a joke bid.

Bingo. There's no way someone can earn 16m. If it were a true buyer, they would be admitting purchasing gold.

We've been watching the auction. Now that the user has a -1 (recent development) his bids will be deleted out.

what scares is me is it's not the only one of it's kind, I frequently see 1,000,000 bids. Imo that's just insane, but maybe that's just because I've never had 200k in my storage, and I've amassed a grand total of 13 ecto over one year of play.

Well, thats at least 8 ecto more then me and I've had my storage up to 400K

There are other ways to earn money, my biggest money maker was the first 2-3 weeks of Tombs when Victo's stuff traded for over 50K, I made an awful lot of money back then which still lasts me

That's been the key for me, to get in early. I put off finishing Factions when the easily farmed Daggers of Xueako were selling for 30-40k. (Props for the dagger guide in the monk forum!) I've sold everything I've ever gotten from the Deep and watched prices plummet to where they are now (I sold a Zodiac shield for 3k and a minor Vigor today). Now, maybe I'll keep my next Vertebreaker... They are sweet!

Unfortunately, I was late to Tombs, but I still managed to sell a few axes, swords and bows before they dropped. Even if I want a particular weapon, I figure I can sell for say 50k today on day one and buy a new one for 20k in a month. 30k profit and I still have "my" item!

One of the most repeated complaints about the auction system is user-side abuses. Dralspire is really good about taking care of the users, but the damage that's done is done, unfortunately.

There's a series of back and forths between 2 primary bidders that inflates it to 8 million without interference. After that, one of them drops off, but the other alternates on and off with a few more people for the rest of the way until 16 mil, and the final person snipes the top bid, probably for 'fun'.

I'm sure it'll be handled if reported.

It's really no different than the snotnose who bids a million dollars on an eBay auction because he thinks it's funny. It's one of the hazards of a public, online auction. Sucks for sure, but what can you do?

EDIT: Actually, that's worse because now the seller is hit with a final value fee from eBay and has to jump through several hoops to get the charge removed.

Well I am glad to see that the fake bids were taken out.... Maybe these idiots actually think that auctions that high couldn't possibly be real. My question tho is, if someone bids on my auction and has crappy feedback or feedback that kinda urks me, how do I go about getting that bidder off? Do I just contact support? (Is it that simple? and are these people ever punished if they do it over and over?) Is there an ignore button for bidders like that?

Curiousity killed the cat yo >_>
